A professional athlete, either as an individual or part of a team, competes in organized sports. These sports can be on the field, track, water, air, courts or indoors. They practice and train regularly to prepare for official events. Athlete is always looking to improve their fitness, skills and performances to the best of their ability and as per the requirements of their sport.
How to become an athlete? Training is the main role of an athlete in any sport. They spend most of their careers, including holidays, preparing their bodies for events and matches. They work alongside other professionals such as coaches, tacticians, analysts, nutritionists, physiotherapists and counsellors. The presence of these individuals is to help an athlete’s performance.
Being a professional sportsperson has many benefits. While fame, income and sponsorships are commonly associated with athletes, one has to make it to the highest level to enjoy such privileges. One also needs to sacrifice a lot to make a good athlete's salary. Working on weekends and holidays, maintaining strict discipline, and coping with pressure are something all professionals go through.
To be successful in a professional athlete career one needs to adhere to rigorous training and physical fitness. They also need good communication skills, relationship maintaining abilities, teamwork skills and high concentration levels.

Tasks
- Attend scheduled practice or training sessions.
- Participate in athletic events or competitive sports, according to established rules and regulations.
- Exercise or practice under the direction of athletic trainers or professional coaches to develop skills, improve physical condition, or prepare for competitions.
- Maintain equipment used in a particular sport.
- Maintain optimum physical fitness levels by training regularly, following nutrition plans, or consulting with health professionals.
- Assess performance following athletic competition, identifying strengths and weaknesses and making adjustments to improve future performance.
- Represent teams or professional sports clubs, performing such activities as meeting with members of the media, making speeches, or participating in charity events.
- Lead teams by serving as captain.
- Receive instructions from coaches or other sports staff prior to events and discuss performance afterwards.
