Atmospheric, earth, marine, and space sciences teachers (postsecondary) teach courses in the physical sciences, except chemistry and physics. This includes both teachers primarily engaged in teaching, and those who do a combination of teaching and research.
Earth science teachers’ job duties include maintaining student attendance records, grades, and other required records, preparing and delivering lectures to undergraduate or graduate students on topics such as structural geology, micrometeorology, and atmospheric thermodynamics, evaluating and grading students' class work, assignments, and papers and compiling, administrating and grading examinations, and assigning this work to others. Besides, they also supervise laboratory work and fieldwork.
The normal route to take up marine teachers jobs is through the obtainment of a bachelor's degree in education with teacher preparation courses specific to science subjects. Students who do a master’s in education can further go for a doctorate. The qualified aspirants then gain experience through teaching at the pre-primary and primary levels. Other advanced courses to pursue to take up teaching jobs are masters in science in education, masters in philosophy in education, etc.
