Audio-video technicians set up, maintain and dismantle audio and video equipment, such as microphones, sound speakers, connecting wires and cables, sound and mixing boards, video cameras, video monitors and servers, and related electronic equipment for live or recorded events, such as concerts, meetings, conventions, presentations, podcasts, news conferences, and sporting events.
The primary tasks of the audio video technician job include notifying supervisors when major equipment repairs are needed, diagnosing and resolving media system problems, and directing & coordinating activities of assistants and other personnel during production. They further compress, digitize, duplicate, and store audio and video data, install, adjust, and operate electronic equipment to record, edit, & transmit radio and television programs, motion pictures, video conferencing, or multimedia presentations.
The technological skills required for the audio visual technician jobs are graphics or photo imaging software, video creation & editing software, operating systems software, and web page creation & editing software. Also, the understanding of computers & electronics, communications & media, telecommunications, and fine arts are vital for audiovisual technicians.
Candidates in these occupations usually need one or two years of on-the-job experience and training with experienced workers. These occupations generally involve using communication and organizational skills to coordinate, supervise, manage, or train others to accomplish goals for creating a successful career path as audiovisual technicians.
