Automotive Engineers
Automotive engineers develop new or improved designs for vehicle structural members, engines, transmissions, or other vehicle systems, using computer-assisted design technology. They direct the building, modification, or testing of vehicles or components.
Automotive engineering is a field of engineering which involves research, design, development, manufacturing, modification and maintenance of automobiles such as buses, cars, trucks and other vehicles. Automobile engineers work with sophisticated technologies to create products that thrill the senses and bring the freedom of mobility to the world.
Automotive engineers use their skills to innovate solutions that are effective and profitable in a commercial environment. They design and develop vehicles and their components, prepare design specifications and cost estimates, analyse energy, environmental and safety aspects, undertake tests, and investigate failures.
How to become an automotive engineer? A bachelor’s degree in automotive engineering or mechanical engineering is required. Candidates should have a strong background in advanced calculus, physics and chemistry. As modern vehicles have many computerised components, a strong knowledge of computer science is a necessity. Their skills include analytical skills, approach to problem-solving, planning and execution skills, and teamwork.
Automobile engineers work in automobile manufacturing industries in the research department or production plants, in transport companies and in automobile workshops. An automotive engineer’s salary is commensurate to the job and is dependent on factors like success achieved experience and seniority.
