Brokerage clerks perform duties related to the purchase, sale, or holding of securities. Their duties include writing orders for stock purchases or sales, computing transfer taxes, verifying stock transactions, accepting and delivering securities, tracking stock price fluctuations, computing equity, distributing dividends, and keeping records of daily transactions and holdings.
Broker jobs are to work at securities or brokerage firms and process their client’s buy or sell orders for stocks, bonds, and other investments, on computers using custom-designed software. They prepare and maintain records of the financial transactions of their clients.
A high school diploma is considered sufficient qualification for an entry-level brokerage clerk position. Recruits receive stock broker education on-the-job training, sometimes in formal classroom settings. Good knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs is very important.
College graduates with degrees in business or finance apply for brokerage clerks’ jobs to begin their journey in the financial field. They can apply for a stockbroker degree at the concerned regulatory office and on successful completion, can act as a registered agent of the firm and earn a decent amount as a broker salary. They are considered a valuable asset among employees and can move up the hierarchy fast. It is not difficult for them to find a place in top managerial positions.
To be successful, brokerage clerks should be organized and detail-oriented, and they should have good interpersonal skills. Because they handle finances and confidential material, they must also be honest and trustworthy.
