Business Teachers, Postsecondary
Business teachers (postsecondary) teach courses in business administration and management, such as accounting, finance, human resources, labour and industrial relations, marketing, and operations research. This includes both teachers primarily engaged in teaching and those who do a combination of teaching and research.
A business education teacher's job description includes evaluating student work, developing instructional materials, guiding class discussions, attending training sessions or professional meetings to maintain professional knowledge and staying informed about current developments specialization.
To pursue a career path as a business teacher professor, the minimum requirement is a master's degree in business or a similar relevant field. It is highly competitive to find a job as full-time faculty at a community college. Further, having a doctorate in education or a relevant field such as economics can give the candidate an edge over others.
With higher education or certification, business professors can get into the roles of librarians, instructional coordinators, educational administrators or consultants at a college or university.
A tenured business teacher is outgoing, people-oriented, has respect for diversity and possesses good communication skills. They are motivating, inspiring and devoted to students’ learning and are highly knowledgeable about their field and business.

In addition, the business education salary depends on their experience, type of employment or the organization they work.

- Prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate or graduate students on topics such as financial accounting, principles of marketing, and operations management.
- Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers.
- Compile, administer, and grade examinations, or assign this work to others.
- Prepare course materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
- Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
- Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
- Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
- Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional organizations and conferences.
- Advise students on academic and vocational curricula and career issues.
