Concierges assist patrons at hotels, apartments, or office buildings with personal services. They take messages; arrange or give advice on transportation, business services, or entertainment; or monitor guest requests for housekeeping and maintenance.
Concierges are the main point of contact between guests and an organization. Organizations that deploy corporate concierge jobs include hotels, resorts, offices, hospitals, residences, restaurants and schools. As they typically work in the hospitality industry, they must make guests feel welcomed, valued and happy with their service.
The main tasks of concierges include greeting guests, answering phones and emails, and coordinating with other services like housekeeping or the kitchen. They must also be knowledgeable in their local area as guests often inquire and ask to make arrangements for dining, transport, leisure or other services.
Concierges can also opt to work as personal concierges wherein they work for individuals. Alongside the common responsibilities of a concierge, personal concierges also run errands and personal tasks for their employers. They can be asked to manage mail, phone calls, laundry or even inventory as needed.
One must have at least a year of customer care role experience to get a concierge salary. While high school education is enough, courses or degrees in hospitality can be useful to advance a career. Organizational and technical skills in IT or common office hardware are a must.
To be a successful career concierge, one must excel in skills such as administrative, customer service, communication, problem-solving and multitasking.
