Drywall and ceiling tile installers apply plasterboard or othe wallboards to ceilings or interior walls of buildings. They apply or mount acoustical tiles or blocks, strips, or sheets of shock-absorbing materials to ceilings and walls of buildings to reduce or reflect sound. These materials may be of decorative quality and include lathers that fasten wooden, metal, or rock board lath to walls, ceilings, or partitions of buildings to provide a support base for plaster, fireproofing or acoustical material.
The job role of a drywall and ceiling tile installer involves work responsibilities of reading blueprints or other specifications to determine methods of work procedures and material or tool requirements. They are required to mark reference points on construction materials, measure materials or objects for installation or assembly and install building fixtures. They then cut openings in existing structures or remodel the existing spaces.
In order to efficiently carry out day to day responsibilities, they should possess skills of critical thinking to identify the strengths and weaknesses, identify alternative solutions to problems and should be skilled to coordinate actions concerning others’ actions. Their judgment and decision-making ability should be strong. Drywall and ceiling tile installers should manage time effectively. They should be skilled in monitoring/assessing the performance of one’s own, other individuals, or organizations to take corrective action for improvement.
Above all, to be successful in this role, drywall and ceiling installers should be physically fit and have good eyesight and balance.
