As knowledge is concerned, you need to have a completed education background in the topics such as customer and Personal Service, English Language, Administrative (administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files, and records), Computers and Electronics, and Psychology ( study of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, etc.
In order to succeed as an eligibility interviewer, a candidate must possess skills such as good listening and communication, good reading comprehension, critical thinking, deductive reasoning, great organizational skills, good knowledge of computers, and observance to collect the right information from all relevant sources. You ought to be good with numbers as daily work tasks include calculating financial data and compiling data or documentation.

- Initiate procedures to grant, modify, deny, or terminate assistance, or refer applicants to other agencies for assistance.
- Compile, record, and evaluate personal and financial data to verify completeness and accuracy, and to determine eligibility status.
- Interview and investigate applicants for public assistance to gather information pertinent to their applications.
- Check with employers or other references to verify answers and obtain further information.
- Keep records of assigned cases, and prepare required reports.
- Schedule benefits claimants for adjudication interviews to address questions of eligibility.
- Prepare applications and forms for applicants for such purposes as school enrollment, employment, and medical services.
