Farm and Home Management Educators
Farm and home management educators instruct and advise individuals and families engaged in agriculture, agricultural-related processes, or home management activities. They demonstrate procedures and apply research findings to advance agricultural and home management activities. They develop educational outreach programs and instruct on either agricultural issues such as agricultural processes and techniques, pest management, and food safety, or on home management issues such as budgeting, nutrition, and child development.
Family farm and home jobs involve duties to develop instructional materials, search information, seek specific data, teach light skills, and advise educators and curricula, instructional methods, or policies.
To be eligible, home advisors require a bachelor’s s degree with a foundation degree in agriculture-related subjects such as agriculture and crop engineering, farm business management, horticulture or land estate management. One can further study MSc or Ph.D. level if they aspire to follow the academic or research route.
On-the-job farming experience with proper technical knowledge is as important as academic qualifications, and it holds importance while acquiring a job.
The salary of farm and home advisors depends on the experience and size of the farm. Other benefits might include a pension scheme, private health insurance, personal or company performance bonus, flexibility to work from home occasionally, accommodation, a vehicle and a mobile phone.
To have a successful career in the family farm and home jobs, candidates must be adaptable with time management, interpersonal and organizational skills. Being tech-savvy is an added advantage.

Tasks
- Collaborate with producers to diagnose and prevent management and production problems.
- Conduct classes or deliver lectures on subjects such as nutrition, home management, and farming techniques.
- Advise farmers and demonstrate techniques in areas such as feeding and health maintenance of livestock, growing and harvesting practices, and financial planning.
- Research information requested by farmers.
- Prepare and distribute leaflets, pamphlets, and visual aids for educational and informational purposes.
- Collect and evaluate data to determine community program needs.
- Maintain records of services provided and the effects of advice given.
- Schedule and make regular visits to farmers.
- Organize, advise, and participate in community activities and organizations, such as county and state fair events and 4-H Clubs.
- Collaborate with social service and health care professionals to advise individuals and families on home management practices, such as budget planning, meal preparation, and time management.
