Gas plant operators distribute or process gas for utility companies and others by controlling compressors to maintain certain pressures on main pipelines.
Entry level gas plant operator jobs and responsibilities mainly involve monitoring transportation and storage of flammable and other potentially dangerous products to ensure that safety guidelines are followed along with upkeep with equipment functioning, observe temperature, level, and flow gauges, and perform regular unit checks to ensure that all equipment is operating as it should. They are also responsible for controlling the operation of compressors, scrubbers, evaporators, and refrigeration equipment to liquefy, compress, or regasify natural gas, starting and shut down plant equipment and recording, reviewing operations records, test results, and gauge readings such as temperatures, pressures, concentrations, and flows.
A good understanding of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance, knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote the effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions and raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods is essential for this role. Apart from this, gas plant operators must be familiar with circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
