Geography teachers (postsecondary) teach courses in geography. This includes both teachers primarily engaged in teaching and those who do a combination of teaching and research.
The geography teacher's job involves the evaluation of students' grades, assignments, and papers. Moreover, they Compile, administer, and grade examinations, or assign this work to others. Besides, they initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions for maintaining student attendance records and grades. They also prepare course materials such as syllabi, assignments, and handouts.
The minimum educational qualification for becoming a geography teacher is a bachelor’s degree in geography and certain qualifications like B.Ed, JBT or CTET exams. In some places, teachers require a master's degree. In India, every state has its own rules and regulations for recruiting school teachers, which can be different in private schools.
Geography teachers must be able to use a variety of teaching techniques such as whole class lessons, discussions, individual or group projects and field trips; using a range of materials including textbooks, worksheets, maps, computers, audio-visual aids and whiteboards; organizing and directing the whole class and helping individual pupils as required.
Geography teachers' salary is contingent on location, experience and technical skills. They find jobs in local government, the armed forces, private companies, environmental consultancies, environmental protection agencies, utilities, charities, information systems organisations, education, commerce, industry, transport, tourism and the civil service and teaching fields.
