Librarians and media collections specialists administer and maintain libraries or collections of information, for public or private access through reference or borrowing. They work in a variety of settings, such as educational institutions, museums, and corporations, and with various types of informational materials, such as books, periodicals, recordings, films, and databases. Their tasks may include acquiring, cataloguing, and circulating library materials, and user services such as locating and organizing information, providing instruction on how to access information, and setting up and operating a library's media equipment.
A librarian govt jobs involves keeping up-to-date records of circulations and materials, maintaining inventory and correcting cataloguing errors; checking books in and out of the library; searching standard reference materials, including online sources, to answer patrons' questions; and teaching library patrons’ basic computer skills, like searching computerised databases.
Media specialists catalogue books, publications, films, and other library materials, based on standard library classification systems; locate unusual information in response to specific requests; evaluate materials to determine outdated items to be discarded; and, train faculty or media staff on the use of software and audio-visual equipment.
A graduate degree or master’s degree is normally required for various types of librarian jobs in India. Media specialists need extensive skills, knowledge, and years of experience to excel at this job. A rich media collection specialist requires knowledge of computers and electronics, education and training, communication and media, and administration and management.
Successful media specialists should be capable of interpreting the meaning of information for others, thinking creatively, processing information, making decisions and solving problems.
