Lifeguards, Ski Patrol, and Other Recreational Protective Service Workers

Lifeguards are rescuers who supervise and scan the aquatic regions to ensure the safety of the individuals. In addition, they monitor and patrol recreational areas such as trails, slopes, or swimming areas. They must have the ability of problem sensitivity, active listening, oral expression etc. Candidates can check the lifeguard job profile on various recruitment sites, and they will be applicable if they meet the eligibility criteria.
Their daily tasks include contacting medical personnel in case of serious injury, examining injured persons, warning recreational participants of inclement weather, illegal conduct etc. Candidates must have good knowledge of customer service, public safety and security, education, training, medicine, and dentistry, with a good command of English. Also, they must be proficient in software applications such as Microsoft Publisher, GroupMe, Word Processing Software etc.
To become a successful lifeguard, the candidate must have completed a High School Diploma with work experience in the respective field. However, the ski patrol salary depends on the experience level. Some of the career options are -Marine Safety Operator, Pool Attendant, Pool Lifeguard, Beach Attendant etc.

Tasks
- Rescue distressed persons, using rescue techniques and equipment.
- Contact emergency medical personnel in case of serious injury.
- Patrol or monitor recreational areas, such as trails, slopes, or swimming areas, on foot, in vehicles, or from towers.
- Examine injured persons and administer first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, if necessary, using training and medical supplies and equipment.
- Instruct participants in skiing, swimming, or other recreational activities and provide safety precaution information.
- Warn recreational participants of inclement weather, unsafe areas, or illegal conduct.
- Complete and maintain records of weather and beach conditions, emergency medical treatments performed, and other relevant incident information.
- Inspect recreational equipment, such as rope tows, T-bars, J-bars, or chair lifts, for safety hazards and damage or wear.
- Provide assistance with staff selection, training, and supervision.
- Inspect recreational facilities for cleanliness.
