Millwright installed, dismantled, or moved machinery and heavy equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, or other drawings.
A millwright technician performs daily tasks like inserting shims, adjusting the tension on nuts and bolts, positioning parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts. Besides, millwright skills include levelling bedplate and establishing centerline, using straightedge, levels, and transit, aligning machines or equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, lasers, or plumb bobs, assembling and installing equipment, using hand tools and power tools and signal crane operator to lower basic assembly units to the bedplate and align unit to the centerline.
To apply for millwright technician, you need knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses repair, and maintenance and knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models, and knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads. Along with these, you require a high-school diploma and work-related skills for millwright jobs.
To crave a successful path as a millwright, candidates require control precision, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, and arm-hand steadiness. Faster than average projected growth is predicted for millwright skills.

Tasks
- Replace defective parts of machine or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts.
- Connect power unit to machines or steam piping to equipment, and test unit to evaluate its mechanical operation.
- Assemble and install equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
- Position steel beams to support bedplates of machines and equipment, using blueprints and schematic drawings, to determine work procedures.
- Signal crane operator to lower basic assembly units to bedplate, and align unit to centerline.
- Insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts.
- Move machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
- Attach moving parts and subassemblies to basic assembly unit, using hand tools and power tools.
- Assemble machines, and bolt, weld, rivet, or otherwise fasten them to foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools.
- Lay out mounting holes, using measuring instruments, and drill holes with power drill.
