Nurse Anesthetists
Nurse anaesthetists administer anaesthesia, monitor patients’ vital signs, and oversee patient recovery from anaesthesia. They assist anesthesiologists, surgeons, other physicians, or dentists and must be registered nurses who have specialized graduate education.

If you are curious to know how to become a nurse anaesthetist, then pass your 10+2 in the science stream followed by a Bachelor of Science in nursing. The next step is to acquire NCLEX-RN and CCRN Certification. One can subsequently do a Master's in Nurse Anesthesia and gain a National Certificate Examination (NCE) to practice.
As they spend most of their days sitting and monitoring patient vitals, a nurse anaesthetist’s salary and salary hikes are significantly more than other nursing specialists and they experience great opportunities.
While proficiency in their duties related to administering anaesthesia and monitoring vital signs is of utmost importance, there are several other skills required for a nurse anaesthetist course. They should have proficiency in areas of surgery, advanced cardiac life support, patient care, pain management, airway management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, postoperative care, teaching ability, and critical care.

Tasks
- Administer post-anesthesia medications or fluids to support patients' cardiovascular systems.
- Evaluate patients' post-surgical or post-anesthesia responses, taking appropriate corrective actions or requesting consultation if complications occur.
- Perform pre-anesthetic screenings, including physical evaluations and patient interviews, and document results.
- Select and prescribe post-anesthesia medications or treatments to patients.
- Select, order, or administer pre-anesthetic medications.
- Discharge patients from post-anesthesia care.
- Perform or evaluate the results of diagnostic tests, such as radiographs (x-rays) and electrocardiograms (EKGs).
- Manage patients' airway or pulmonary status, using techniques such as endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacological support, respiratory therapy, and extubation.
- Monitor patients' responses, including skin color, pupil dilation, pulse, heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, ventilation, or urine output, using invasive and noninvasive techniques.
- Perform or manage regional anesthetic techniques, such as local, spinal, epidural, caudal, nerve blocks and intravenous blocks.
