Obstetricians and Gynecologists
Obstetricians and gynaecologists provide medical care related to pregnancy or childbirth. They diagnose, treat, and help prevent diseases of women, particularly those affecting the reproductive system. They also provide general care to women and perform both medical and gynaecological surgery functions.
An obstetrician's job responsibilities are to collect medical information from patients, family members, or other medical professionals, record patient medical histories, care for women during pregnancy and childbirth, treat chronic diseases or disorders and administer non-intravenous medications.
To become an obstetrician or gynaecologist, one must complete a degree in medicine and have obtained an MBBS or equivalent qualification. One can then complete a two-year foundation programme. After completing your first year of foundation training, candidates become eligible for registration as a doctor.
A gynecologist job specializes in female reproductive health. They normally diagnose and treat issues related to the female reproductive tract, which includes the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries and breasts.
Obstetricians and gynae doctors mostly work in clinics, hospitals, birthing facilities and other medical care facilities. Because births and emergencies can occur at all hours, a gynaecologist often works long, irregular hours.
The skills of a prospective obstetrician and gynaec doctor are learning ability, verbal aptitude, numerical aptitude, manual dexterity, form perception and finger dexterity. A successful obstetrician and gynaec doctor displays ongoing care and compliance. They are reliable, responsible and patient communicators.

Tasks
- Care for and treat women during prenatal, natal, and postnatal periods.
- Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
- Treat diseases of female organs.
- Monitor patients' conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary.
- Perform cesarean sections or other surgical procedures as needed to preserve patients' health and deliver babies safely.
- Prescribe or administer therapy, medication, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
- Analyze records, reports, test results, or examination information to diagnose medical condition of patient.
- Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical histories, reports, or examination results.
- Advise patients and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention.
- Refer patient to medical specialist or other practitioner when necessary.
