Operations research analysts formulate and apply mathematical modelling and other optimizing methods to develop and interpret information that assists management with decision-making, policy formulation, or other managerial functions. They collect and analyze data and develop decision support software, services, or products and develop and supply optimal time, cost, or logistics networks for program evaluation, review, or implementation.
To be eligible to become an operation research analyst, one must typically have a degree in business, operations research, management science, analytics, mathematics, engineering, computer science, or another technical or quantitative field. Operations research, a sub-field of applied maths, is the study of applied mathematics to business questions. It has a very interesting position alongside other fields such as data science and machine learning. Operations research is important because it is a helpful tool used to solve complex problems under uncertainty.
