Opticians (dispensing) design, measure, fit, and adapt lenses and frames for clients according to written optical prescriptions or specifications. They assist clients with inserting, removing, and caring for contact lenses and also guide clients with selecting frames. Besides, they measure customers for the size of eyeglasses and coordinate frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions and prepare work orders for optical laboratories containing instructions for grinding and mounting lenses in frames. Moreover, they verify the exactness of finished lens spectacles and adjust frame and lens position to fit a client. They also shape or reshape frames and contact lens opticians.
Licenced dispensing opticians need to earn a minimum of three years of academic and practical training to qualify for this role.
