Cover interior walls or ceilings of rooms with decorative wallpaper or fabric, or attach advertising posters on surfaces such as walls and billboards.
Paperhangers apply wallpaper, vinyl, and fabric coverings to protect, preserve, and decorate the indoor surfaces of the outdoor buildings, and for under construction areas. Their daily tasks include precision paperhanging, smoothening strips, or sections of papers, with brushes, and rollers to remove the wrinkles, trim rough edges from strips, check finished wall coverings etc.
To pursue a career in this field, the candidate has to complete a High School Diploma or its equivalent with work experience in the related field. Besides that, he/she must have a good knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer, and personal services, materials, methods, and tools, administration, and management, mathematics and precision paperhanging.
To become a successful paperhanger, the candidate must have the ability to listen to the instructions, talk to others to convey information, ability to move hands and arms to assemble the objects, multilimb coordination etc. Also, the applicant must be proficient in using various softwares such as Turtle Creek, Graphics and Photo Imaging software, On center quick bid, Microsoft Excel etc.

Tasks
- Smooth strips or sections of paper with brushes or rollers to remove wrinkles and bubbles and to smooth joints.
- Trim rough edges from strips, using straightedges and trimming knives.
- Trim excess material at ceilings or baseboards, using knives.
- Check finished wallcoverings for proper alignment, pattern matching, and neatness of seams.
- Mark vertical guidelines on walls to align strips, using plumb bobs and chalk lines.
- Cover interior walls and ceilings of rooms with decorative wallpaper or fabric, using hand tools.
- Apply adhesives to the backs of paper strips, using brushes, or dunk strips of prepasted wallcovering in water, wiping off any excess adhesive.
- Measure and cut strips from rolls of wallpaper or fabric, using shears or razors.
- Place strips or sections of paper on surfaces, aligning section edges and patterns.
- Fill holes, cracks, and other surface imperfections preparatory to covering surfaces.
