Paralegals and legal assistants assist lawyers by investigating facts, preparing legal documents, or researching legal precedent. They then conduct research to support a legal proceeding, formulate a defense, or initiate legal action.
Paralegals and legal assistants usually perform legal assistant jobs, such as tasks-prepare affidavits or other documents, such as legal correspondence, and organize and maintaining records in paper or electronic filing systems, create legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, appeals, wills, contracts, and real estate closing statements and prepare for trial by performing tasks such as organizing exhibits. They are responsible for investigating facts and laws of cases and searching relevant sources, such as public records and internet sources, for determining causes of action and prepare cases and meet with clients to discuss details of the case.
Most occupations in paralegal and legal assistant jobs need training in vocational schools, related on-the-job experience, or an associate's degree in law & government. They require abilities such as listening to and understanding information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences, the ability to communicate information and ideas effectively, communicating information and ideas in writing to others.
The difference between Paralegals and legal assistants is that the former are more involved with the actual technicalities of the law, whereas legal assistants cover broader tasks. If you want to succeed in a law career, becoming a paralegal is more beneficial. The legal assistant's salary is commensurate with experience, knowledge and seniority.
