A pharmacist reviews medical prescriptions to assure accuracy, ascertains the needed ingredients and evaluates their suitability, provides information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage.
They maintain control records, per legal and policy requirements, for radioactive nuclei, or registries of poisons, narcotics, or controlled drugs and maintain procedures for mixing, packaging, or labelling pharmaceuticals, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal. They also assess the identity, strength, or purity of medications.
A professional degree in pharmacy is the threshold requirement, while a doctoral is an advantage. Pharmacists can find jobs in medicine manufacturing facilities, hospitals and pharmacies and the job may involve verifying patient records, advising patients on treatments, determining protocols for medical procedures, advising medical personnel regarding healthcare issues and collaborating with them to plan or provide treatment. A pharmacists salary can be expected to be between ₹ 7,11,361 to 13,18,698 per annum.
To have a successful career as a pharmacist, basic skills like reading, work-related information and effective communication along with problem-solving skills and good social networking are desirable. Being technologically educated in medical and other software is preferred.
