Production clerk coordinate and expedite the flow of work and materials within or between departments of an establishment according to production schedule.
Production clerk job description includes managing the flow of information, work, and material within business. They set the schedule for the workers, estimate the costs, keep track of the materials, as well as production problems in the manufacturing plants. Their daily tasks include reviewing documents, conferring with department supervisors, production planning and expediting clerks, arranging for delivery, maintaining inventories of materials, or supplies to meet production demands.
To pursue a career as production clerk, one must pass the high school diploma followed by a Bachelor’s degree and previous work experience. Besides that, one must have a good knowledge of raw materials, production process, coordination of people and resources, administration, and management, arithmetic, customer, and personal service, with a good command in English and technical skills like MEDITECH software, Sage Peachtree Premium, Oracle software etc.
To become a successful production clerk and expediting clerks, one must have the ability to listen to the details closely, convey the information clearly, understand the written sentences, manage time and complete the tasks. He/she must be a critical thinker, know how to use computers, make decisions, ability to see the details closely etc. However, the planning clerk salary depends on the experience gained in the respective field. Some of the career opportunities are - materials coordinator, planner, production assistant, production scheduler, materials planner.

Tasks
- Examine documents, materials, or products and monitor work processes to assess completeness, accuracy, and conformance to standards and specifications.
- Review documents, such as production schedules, work orders, or staffing tables, to determine personnel or materials requirements or material priorities.
- Confer with department supervisors or other personnel to assess progress and discuss needed changes.
- Revise production schedules when required due to design changes, labor or material shortages, backlogs, or other interruptions, collaborating with management, marketing, sales, production, or engineering.
- Confer with establishment personnel, vendors, or customers to coordinate production or shipping activities and to resolve complaints or eliminate delays.
- Record production data, including volume produced, consumption of raw materials, or quality control measures.
- Requisition and maintain inventories of materials or supplies necessary to meet production demands.
- Calculate figures, such as required amounts of labor or materials, manufacturing costs, or wages, using pricing schedules, adding machines, calculators, or computers.
- Distribute production schedules or work orders to departments.
- Compile information, such as production rates and progress, materials inventories, materials used, or customer information, so that status reports can be completed.
