School psychologists diagnose and implement individual or schoolwide interventions or strategies to address educational, behavioural, or developmental issues that adversely impact educational functioning in a school. They address student learning and behavioural problems and counsel students or families. They design and implement performance plans, and evaluate performance. Moreover, they consult with other school-based personnel.
School psychologists are experts in mental health, learning, and behaviour, to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.
To qualify for the position of a school psychologist, one has to earn a graduate degree in psychology or applied psychology. The subjects relevant to psychology are personality development, psychotherapy, stress management and neuro-psychology.
