Sewers, Hand
The candidate applying sewers, the hand must know how to sew by hand, join, reinforce, or finish, usually with needle and thread, a variety of manufactured items. They are also called weavers and stitchers.
The hand sewer job technician sews, joins, reinforces, or finishes parts of articles, such as garments, books, mattresses, toys, and wigs, using needles and thread or other materials and trim excess threads or edges of parts, using scissors or knives. Further, they are responsible for selecting thread, twine, cord, or yarn to be used, and thread needles, drawing and cutting patterns according to specifications, and then finally folding, twisting, stretching, or draping material, and securing articles in preparation for sewing.
Required knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models, knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods and knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services including marketing strategy and tactics fall under the duties of hand sewing technician.
How to become a hand sewer? To be successful in this career path, you need to be creative, organized, and informative. After completing the training, you will learn how to sew by hand. You will be required to have work-related skills and experience in hand sewing.

Tasks
- Sew, join, reinforce, or finish parts of articles, such as garments, books, mattresses, toys, and wigs, using needles and thread or other materials.
- Trim excess threads or edges of parts, using scissors or knives.
- Select thread, twine, cord, or yarn to be used, and thread needles.
- Draw and cut patterns according to specifications.
- Fold, twist, stretch, or drape material, and secure articles in preparation for sewing.
- Smooth seams with heated irons, flat bones, or rubbing sticks.
- Measure and align parts, fasteners, or trimmings, following seams, edges, or markings on parts.
- Use different sewing techniques such as felling, tacking, basting, embroidery, and fagoting.
- Sew buttonholes, or add lace or other trimming.
- Wax thread by drawing it through a ball of wax.
