Skincare specialists provide skincare treatments to the face and body to enhance an individual's appearance. This includes electrologists and laser hair removal specialists.
A skincare specialist's career includes cleaning facilities or work areas, cleaning tools or equipment, applying cleansing or conditioning agents to a client's scalp, hair or skin, assessing skin or hair conditions and providing medical or cosmetic advice.
There are several prerequisites to qualify to become an esthetician. Education requirements differentiate by state, as do tuition costs, program duration, required training hours, exams, and other licensing requirements. One should hold a high school diploma and go for a vocational course from a renowned beauty organization. In some workplaces, you are required to have a graduate degree.
Esthetician's jobs involve working at varied locations like salons, high-end hotels, luxury resorts, spas, hospitals, nursing facilities, movie sets, dermatologists or plastic surgeon offices or retail or educational environments.
Estheticians’ salary and job prospects can vary depending on location, level of training and skills and years of experience one holds.
To be successful in a skin care specialist career, one needs to be a people person with professional behaviour and attitude, patience and good listening skills. One needs to be proficient in giving massage infusions and know how to sell. An esthetician should know how to educate people about the why and how of the products to help in effective skincare.

Tasks
- Sterilize equipment and clean work areas.
- Keep records of client needs and preferences and the services provided.
- Demonstrate how to clean and care for skin properly and recommend skin-care regimens.
- Examine clients' skin, using magnifying lamps or visors when necessary, to evaluate skin condition and appearance.
- Select and apply cosmetic products, such as creams, lotions, and tonics.
- Cleanse clients' skin with water, creams, or lotions.
- Treat the facial skin to maintain and improve its appearance, using specialized techniques and products, such as peels and masks.
- Refer clients to medical personnel for treatment of serious skin problems.
- Determine which products or colors will improve clients' skin quality and appearance.
- Perform simple extractions to remove blackheads.
