Tellers receive and pay out money. They keep records of money and negotiable instruments involved in a financial institution's various transactions.
Tellers receive checks and cash for deposit, verify amounts and check the accuracy of deposit slips. Bank tellers cash checks and pay out money after confirming that the signatures are correct, that written and numerical quantities agree, and that accounts have sufficient funds. They count currency and checks received, balance currency and checks in cash drawers at the ends of shifts, calculate daily transactions, enter customers' transactions into computers and issue receipts.
Bank tellers jobs resolve problems or discrepancies concerning customers' accounts, process transactions, such as term deposits, retirement savings plan contributions, automated teller transactions, night deposits, and mail deposits, answer telephones, identify transaction mistakes, when debits and credits do not balance, compute fees, interest, and service charges, perform clerical tasks, such as typing, filing, and microfilm photography, and inform customers about foreign currency regulations and compute transaction fees for currency exchanges.
A high school diploma with some previous work-related skills, knowledge and experience is required for the job of a net teller. Tellers work at banks and their pay is commensurate to the nature of the job.
Skills required of a bank teller include mathematics, reading comprehension, communication, service orientation, social perceptiveness, writing and time management. They need knowledge of economics and accounting, banking, public safety and security and customer service in order to earn seven-figure bank teller salary.
A successful teller should be dependable, capable of thinking analytically and pay attention to detail.
