Timing Device Assemblers and Adjusters
Perform precision assembling or adjusting, within narrow tolerances, of timing devices such as digital clocks or timing devices with electrical or electronic components.
Timing device assemblers and adjusters assemble and install the components of timepieces to complete the mechanism, using various tools such as watchmakers tools and loupes. They observe the operation of timepiece parts and subassemblies to determine the accuracy of the movement, and detect the cause of error. Their daily tasks include testing the operations, repairing the malfunctioning components, and watching the gauges, dials, and indicators to make sure they are working.
The skills that are required for these assemblers are - repairing, quality control analysis, troubleshooting, and operations monitoring. However, the technical skills that are required for the timing device assemblers and adjusters are analytical, scientific software, official suite software, retail sales software etc.
They must have knowledge of machines and tools, including design, repair, and maintenance, including mathematical knowledge in various areas such as algebra, calculus, statistics. They must have the ability to precisely coordinate movements of the fingers, assemble small objects, see the details at close range, inspect the equipment, and structures.
The educational qualifications required to become a successful timing device assemblers and adjusters is to complete a High School Diploma or its equivalent with a previous work experience in the respective field. Some of the career options are - Calibrator, Horologist, Watch Technician, Watchmaker.

Tasks
- Assemble and install components of timepieces to complete mechanisms, using watchmakers' tools and loupes.
- Observe operation of timepiece parts and subassemblies to determine accuracy of movement, and to diagnose causes of defects.
- Test operation and fit of timepiece parts and subassemblies, using electronic testing equipment, tweezers, watchmakers' tools, and loupes.
- Replace specified parts to repair malfunctioning timepieces, using watchmakers' tools, loupes, and holding fixtures.
- Disassemble timepieces such as watches, clocks, and chronometers so that repairs can be made.
- Clean and lubricate timepiece parts and assemblies, using solvents, buff sticks, and oil.
- Examine components of timepieces such as watches, clocks, or chronometers for defects, using loupes or microscopes.
- Bend parts, such as hairsprings, pallets, barrel covers, and bridges, to correct deficiencies in truing or endshake, using tweezers.
- Change timing weights on balance wheels to correct deficient timing.
- Adjust sizes or positioning of timepiece parts to achieve specified fit or function, using calipers, fixtures, and loupes.
