Tire Builders
Tire builders operate machines to build tires.
A tire builder's job description involves assembling tires and mounting materials or workpieces onto production equipment and smoothing surfaces with abrasive materials or tools. They also apply solutions to production equipment and cut industrial materials in preparation for fabrication or processing.
The tire merchant owns businesses of tires which include repair, retail, mounting and balance of alignment. Some tire merchant shops offer mechanical work of various degrees. They mostly focus on front-end work and trade deals.
Tire merchants in a tiring job should possess certain knowledge, skills and abilities. They are supposed to be knowledgeable about manufacturing, distribution, raw materials, safety guidelines, business, management, engineering and technology, and mechanical aspects of running a business. They should possess the basic skills of managing people and groups to make improvements in work and solve problems in the best possible way. They should be able to use hands and fingers efficiently, keep arms and hands steady in a controlled movement, and have control over machines, cars, trucks or boats. Tire merchants need to be persistent as tire job involves exercise for long periods.
Many tire builder jobs require experience in a role such as a machine operator. Meanwhile, many tire merchants also have previous career experience in roles such as cashier or forklift operator.
To succeed as a tire builder, a tire merchant should have great business skills, be detail-oriented and have dexterity.

Tasks
- Depress pedals to rotate drums, and wind specified numbers of plies around drums to form tire bodies.
- Start rollers that bond tread and plies as drums revolve.
- Activate bead setters that press prefabricated beads onto plies.
- Inspect worn tires for faults, cracks, cuts, and nail holes, and to determine if tires are suitable for retreading.
- Cut plies at splice points, and press ends together to form continuous bands.
- Align treads with guides, start drums to wind treads onto plies, and slice ends.
- Position rollers that turn ply edges under and over beads, or use steel rods to turn ply edges.
- Position ply stitcher rollers and drums according to width of stock, using hand tools and gauges.
- Build semi-raw rubber treads onto buffed tire casings to prepare tires for vulcanization in recapping or retreading processes.
- Wind chafers and breakers onto plies.
