Web Administrators
Web administrators manage web environment design, deployment, development and maintenance activities. They perform testing and quality assurance of websites and web applications.
Web administrators (or site admins) create websites from scratch. They are responsible for designing, developing, maintaining and troubleshooting websites.
Web administrators' job is to ensure websites are safe for users. They adapt programs, and security protocols and solve software issues. They also need to update website content as needed and always keep back-ups in place. Website administrators monitor and analyse website traffic, recommend upgrades and improvements and routinely test security and systems measures.
How to become a web administrator? with just a high school education. Although, an associate degree in web design or a related field is common for administrators. More technical positions or roles in bigger companies may require a bachelor's or master's degree in computer application or software-related fields. Common technical languages one must know are HTML and JavaScript. Site admins are also good at graphic designing and possess multiple relevant certifications.
With relevant qualifications, one can get started in a junior web administrator position and work their way up. There are also opportunities in related roles of web analytics or web development either before or after web administrator experience. With the current digital business landscape, web administrator salary is boosted across all industries in the IT departments of companies. One may also work for clients through IT companies employment or freelancing and contract work.
To be successful, one should have problem-solving, customer service and critical thinking skills and keep up with the technical developments in their field.

- Review or update Web page content or links in a timely manner, using appropriate tools.
- Monitor systems for intrusions or denial of service attacks, and report security breaches to appropriate personnel.
- Implement Web site security measures, such as firewalls or message encryption.
- Administer internet or intranet infrastructure, including Web, file, and mail servers.
- Collaborate with development teams to discuss, analyze, or resolve usability issues.
- Test backup or recovery plans regularly and resolve any problems.
- Monitor Web developments through continuing education, reading, or participation in professional conferences, workshops, or groups.
- Implement updates, upgrades, and patches in a timely manner to limit loss of service.
