Weighers, measurers, checkers, and samplers (recordkeeping) weigh measure and check materials, supplies, and equipment for the purpose of keeping relevant records. Their duties are primarily clerical by nature. This includes workers who collect and keep records of samples of products or materials.
Weighers, measurers, checkers, samplers and recordkeeping personnel keep an accurate record of materials, by documenting their weight, dimensions, quality and quantity.
Weigher's job is to check the condition of materials received or to be sent and can cancel a shipment if it does not meet standards. They verify invoices or receipts of received or sent items, are involved in preparing inventory reports, and monitor, as well as clean, work areas, such as collection sites and drop-boxes, when required. They transport materials, products, or samples to processing, shipping, or storage areas, manually or using conveyors, pumps, or hand trucks.
Record keeper job descriptions are primarily clerical by nature and include keeping relevant records of weight and measure. They maintain financial records, such as accounts of daily collections and billings, and records of receipts issued.
Weighers need to have a high school diploma to be eligible for the job salary of a checker. Basic skills in arithmetic and statistics are needed and previous experience in related fields is preferred. Knowledge of filing and good computer skills are desired traits along with good writing and communication skills.
To be successful, weighers should be able to control and operate a number of equipment or systems such as word processors, weighing machines, and measurement instruments.

- Collect or prepare measurement, weight, or identification labels and attach them to products.
- Document quantity, quality, type, weight, test result data, and value of materials or products to maintain shipping, receiving, and production records and files.
- Compare product labels, tags, or tickets, shipping manifests, purchase orders, and bills of lading to verify accuracy of shipment contents, quality specifications, or weights.
- Count or estimate quantities of materials, parts, or products received or shipped.
- Weigh or measure materials, equipment, or products to maintain relevant records, using volume meters, scales, rules, or calipers.
- Communicate with customers and vendors to exchange information regarding products, materials, and services.
- Compute product totals and charges for shipments.
- Collect product samples and prepare them for laboratory analysis or testing.
- Unload or unpack incoming shipments.
- Operate scalehouse computers to obtain weight information about incoming shipments such as those from waste haulers.
